UBP Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and UBP Group Deputy Chairman Ahmet Savaşan attended the 12th International Conference of Asian Political Parties in Cambodia on behalf of the TRNC. Hasipoğlu and Savaşan gave information about the Cyprus issue as well as the regional policies of the UBP at the meetings they attended.
UBP MPs Hasipoğlu and Savaşan represented the TRNC for the first time in Asia at the Political Parties meetings
National Unity Party (UBP) MPs Oguzhan Hasipoglu and Ahmet Savaşan, Cambodia People's Party and participated in the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) at the invitation of the Asian Political Parties Presidency. This meeting, where a political party from TRNC was represented for the first time in Asia, was held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, between November 21-23.
Speaking at the meetings organized within the scope of the ICAPP 12th General Assembly, Hasipoğlu and Savaşan had the opportunity to convey the Cyprus issue to their counterparts. In their speeches, they emphasized that the Cyprus issue should be discussed on the right ground, that after years of fruitless federation negotiations, the Turkish Cypriot people's demand for sovereignty, equality and equal international status is an extremely legitimate right made at the right time, that the Southern Cyprus administration has always run away from the table in the past time while pretending to want a solution, that they are trying to present Turkey to the world as an obstacle and occupier in front of the solution, that this argument is extremely misleading and unrealistic, and that it has no other purpose other than camouflaging their own uncompromising attitudes. In their speeches, they stated that the intervention of the Motherland Guarantor Turkey to the island brought peace and tranquility not only to us but to the whole island.

Hasipoğlu and Savaşan emphasized that the sovereignty demand of the Turkish Cypriot people should be discussed on a legitimate and correct ground. Drawing attention to the uncompromising attitude of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus in the settlement process, the MPs stated that the Greek Cypriot side has made a habit of running away from the table and its characterization of Turkey as an “occupier” is misleading and does not reflect the truth. They also stated that Turkey's intervention brought peace and tranquility not only to the Turkish Cypriots but also to the whole island.
Hasipoğlu and Savaşan also met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and held bilateral meetings with Chung Eui-yong, Chairman of the International Committee of Asian Political Parties and former Foreign Minister of South Korea; Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Co-Chairman of the ICAPP Standing Committee and Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Senate of Pakistan; Tahir Budagov, Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party; Zafer Sırakaya, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul MP; and representatives from the Cambodian parliament.

The MPs, who, as UBP, emphasized the importance of being among the 35 countries invited and having the opportunity to represent our country, had the opportunity to meet with the representatives of political parties and MPs representing their parliaments. The main theme of the meeting was “The Role of Political Parties in Reconciliation”. At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the next meeting in two years will be held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. In their statements after the meetings, Hasipoğlu and Savaşan stated that they will continue their struggle to make the TRNC more visible in the international arena.
